Herbal remedies

Herbal remedies are centuries old. Before modern medicine, people used plants and trees to treat their ailments. These remedies exist as teas, tinctures, powders, and pastes made from the leaves, flowers, bark, or roots of various species of plants, depending on their specific properties and toxicities in humans. Today, companies also sell herbal supplements in pill form.

People trained in the use of herbal remedies are herbalists. Because plants can be toxic depending on how they are used or prepared, this training is important for ensuring that the knowledge about plants and their healing properties is passed down properly.
